Outcomes Based Education became the official education policy of the DBE. It was a controversial policy from the start and doomed to fail owing to a number of reasons. So at Athlone and at many other progressive schools we were determined to offer our pupils an education that was rooted in good principles and values. The Educational Journal of the TLSA continued to provide stimulating reading as teachers strove to be conscientious and attempted to teach beyond the confines of the disastrous OBE. Our matric cohort of OBE students did very well as a result of good values and study methods that had been instilled by the principal and staff.
