1990

The 90s proved to be a false dawn for a better educational dispensation. The euphoria of Nelson Mandela’s release and the unbanning of the liberation parties were soon replaced by grim realities and the concomitant emotional feelings of disappointment, disillusionment, frustration and anger. Life at Athlone High went on as we were determined to provide our students with an education for life and to prepare them to become good citizens. We made it back into the A section of athletics in 1990 after an absence of many years. Lucille Abrahams, our top female sprinter excelled once again and the rest of the team tried very hard but competition in the top section was always going to be tough.
