1988

Dramas had always formed an integral part of education at Athlone High. 1988 was to be no exception with our students presenting a very lavish production of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra at Spes Bona High’s hall. Mrs Dolores Carr, an exceptional English and teacher, did a superb job in directing a very talented cast. The cast members were very passionate about Shakespeare and they were disciplined in their rehearsals. Many students excelled in English that year as the play was the prescribed examinable drama for the matric examinations. Joy Pregnolato, who played Cleopatra obtained an A-aggregate in her senior certificate examinations, following in the footsteps of many others before her who achieved this distinction.

The matric ball (always a highlight at AHS) was held at the Muizenberg Civic Centre. Exquisite costumes were the order of the day as the standard ten students “showed” off the motto, Nihil Sed Optimus.
